Another Chance for Conway ISD?

A week ago, Conway School Board member Jason Sandefer announced he was resigning from the board.

Sandefer has been a reliably conservative vote on the board, supporting controversial proposals that would limit the public’s access to school board meetings and records, ban trans students from using the bathrooms of their choice, and supporting book bans in school libraries.

Few reasons were given for his resignation; he cited only “personal and family reasons.”

Here’s the deal: Sandefer is in Zone 1, which is a flippable district. The board will appoint a temporary replacement until next year’s elections, but we can exert pressure on current board members to appoint someone relatively moderate.

We encourage all residents of the school district to reach out to their board members and ask them to keep the culture wars out of Conway ISD by appointing someone qualified and dedicated to education, not ridiculous policies that hurt students.

Rest assured, when the election comes around we’ll be doing our best to elect someone with common sense and integrity. But till then, put pressure on the board to put Conway students first.
